The NDC Good Causes Thread
|
|
|
|
|
I had been thinking about starting a thread where we could all post links to charitable organizations that help people or animals in some way,and since then daniel625 has created a list of good causes for the NDC Twitter page
http://twitter.com/NDCforum/good-causes,so maybe more website and/or Twitter page links can be posted here to help spread the word about these organizations. These are sites that are posted in the Links section of NoDoubt.com and have already been added to the NDC Twitter page:
http://www.nodoubtfoundation.org/
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKrtG724Cek
Gwen Stefani has joined forces with (RED) to lend her voice to the cause of spreading the word about an upcoming HBO film entitled The Lazarus Effect, which documents an inexpensive AIDS treatment which can bring those dying of the disease back to a healthy state within forty days of treatment. Also signed on to help spread the word about the film are Penelope Cruz, Orlando Bloom, Iman, Hugh Jackman, and Don Cheadle. The Lazarus Effect, which will debut on May 24th on HBO, is directed by Lance Bangs and executive produced by Spike Jonze.
(RED) is a charitable effort spearheaded by U2’s Bono and others aimed at encouraging corporations to offer special red versions of their existing products with a portion of the sales going to charitable causes.

Many Hearts – Many Causes members are caring individuals from around the world who are coming together to support those charitable non-profit organizations who are doing admirable work in the area’s of humanitarian, environmental and children’s welfare. http://newenglanderprops.webs.com/manyheartsmanycauses.htm
Many Hearts –Many Causes is not a charity and we do not collect or receive contributions. We are a community of caring individuals who decided to come together to make at least a $1.00 contribution monthly with the hopes that others from around the world will join us. Together our contributions can grow into a substantially larger amount of much needed funding for the charities and causes that are near to our hearts.

Room To Read http://www.roomtoread.org/Page.aspx?pid=209
Today, there are more than 770 million illiterate people in the world, over 300 million children who are not enrolled in school, and hundreds of millions more lack access to books and libraries. Ninety-eight percent of these children live in developing countries, where extreme poverty prevents them from gaining an education. As members of a global community, we must recognize that illiteracy is a major hurdle in improving the quality of life around the globe. Room to Read believes in the power of education and is proud to introduce our most ambitious initiative in our nine-year history – the Room to Dream Campaign.
In Room to Read's first eight years of operation, we have helped more than 3.1 million children in the developing world by constructing schools, establishing libraries, providing long-term girls' scholarships and publishing new local language children's books.
Sites like these have information on how to help the environment:

Every minute of every day, a child is born with HIV. We must stop this and we can. Treatment is now available to help a mother prevent the transmission of HIV to her child. All nations need to be united behind the goal to provide access to this treatment for every mother so that by 2015 virtually no child will be born with HIV. The Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria is the main channel for funds to achieve this breakthrough. If the Global Fund gets enough resources for the coming three years, the world can succeed in this goal. If the world cannot find the money necessary to finance the Global Fund, this and many other goals in global health will fail.
Please sign this petition and join a global call to provide the funding necessary to achieve the goal of an HIV-free generation by 2015. http://bit.ly/ccQvpd
Go to FreeKibble.com to play trivia, and in one click, help feed shelter dogs and cats for free. Answer the Bow Wow Trivia/Meow Trivia question daily, and regardless of whether you answer correctly or not, 10 pieces of kibble will be donated!(thanks to love_angel for the link)
http://www.girleffect.org/ There are 600 million adolescent girls living in poverty in the developing world. By giving one of these girls a chance, you start the girl effect. When girls have safe places to meet, education, legal protection, health care, and access to training and job skills, they can thrive. And if they thrive, everyone around them thrives, too.
Another good(and life-saving) cause-thanks to http://twitter.com/thingsweheart for raising awareness of it:

Most of these organizations have info on their websites on several ways you can help,so if you don't have money to make a donation, you can maybe volunteer your time at a local branch of one of them,or just post about them on your social networking sites to help raise awareness. Many thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread. :)
