GLAMBLOVER wrote: | love tom...so who wants to clear up some things i dont get about prop 8 ?...i am all for gay and *** weddings...i think its great and i would be so happy for my friends...the things that bother me are:
ive read that pastors/priests ect can be sued over not performing a ceremony for a gay/*** wedding... and while i think its kinda strange in this day and age not too i completely understand them feeling that it is against their beliefs/religions ect and not wanting to do it...i think it would be completely unfair for that to happen...
ive also read that it would allow children as young as kidnergarten to be taught health ed/sex ed and that includes info about gay/*** relationships...again, im all for kids learning these things but not at such a young age......
so i feel completely torn...if i vote yes on 8 im screwing my friends and family members who are gay and if i vote no im screwing my nephew because i surely dont want him learning about ANY kind of sexual orientation when he is so young!
hmmmmm.....

I've been involved in the no on 8 effort and am very well informed and I'm surprised that no on has told you that what you are reading are a BUNCH OF BLATANT LIES to distract from the fact that what this prop really does is revoke rights from a group of people plain and simple. There is not one thing on the measure that says anything about school, children, or churches. It simply states that the prop 8 would eliminate marriage rights for same sex couples. Children aren't even taught about marriage at such a young age. It's also against California state law to teach children about those kinds of things without parental constent. It's called the Opt Out Law. And in the CA Sumpreme Court ruling, it specifically states that no churches will be forced to perform the unions. The yes on 8 people are feeding everyone lies. They have no solid argument for why civil marriages and equal rights for ALL Californians should not be allowed. Many people complain that their freedom of speech and religion are threathened by gay marriage. Civil freedoms trump religious freedoms. And I know that the band does support gay rights which is why they have a link to The Human Rights Campaign which is the biggest gay rights group in the country. http://www.nodoubt.com/links/

It will mean vicars can be sued or sacked from their jobs if they refuse 'marry' a same sex couple at a registrars office, a woman in London is claiming for unfair dismissal from her job because she was sacked, she claims it was against her religious beliefs and her human rights.
