I work with a girl named Carly.  She said that she is named after Carly Simon -- her father is a big fan. In elementary school I was friends with a girl named Robbin Hood.  When we were walking home from school, one day someone asked ,"How's Little John".  She just replied, "He's doing fine".  Robbin was used to it, and did not let it bother her. I wanted to name our son Galileo.  We lived in Spain at the time.  The neighbors thought it was fine.  But, I know that in the USA, it would stand out.  So he is Ezra Cameron, and our daughter, who was born in Hawaii is named Maria Esperansa.  I wanted her middle name to be Auxiliadora, but we decided not to name her that because we knew that her mother, father, and brother would be the only family members who would pronounce right.  We both like the sound of Auxiladora and the short version Auxi. http://forums.nodoubt.com/forums/1659268/ShowPost.aspx    Report

Dickgraber.  It is pronounced with a long a.  But that is not what I thought when I first saw it on the back of a shipmates dungerees.  My first thought was that someone must have switched his name on his pants.
