Where were they at the end of Season 5? A little reminder...
Jack Shephard
1977: Jack dropped the Jughead core into the Swan shaft - but it didn't work! As the electromagnetism began to pull objects into the shaft, he was hit over the head by a flying tool box. When he woke up, he pulled Sawyer away from the shaft shortly before the Jughead went off.
Kate Austen
1977: When Juliet was pulled into the shaft by chains, Kate was the first to help. She held her long enough for Sawyer to grab her too. After she fell, Kate pulled Sawyer away from the shaft and the bomb went off.
James "Sawyer" Ford
1977: Sawyer managed to get the other Dharma members to lay down their weapons, and let Jack drop the core into the shaft. When it didn't work and Juliet was dragged inside, he tried to save her but failed. Obviously upset at losing the love of his life, Sawyer had to be dragged away by Jack and Kate. Right before the big bang.
Juliet Burke
1977: Juliet was dragged into the Swan shaft by chains, being pulled by the electromagnetism. Sawyer tried to save her, but she fell. But she didn't die! Realising it could be her final moments, she summoned the strength to smash the undetonated Jughead core with a rock, until it presumably exploded, leaving her fate unknown.
Hugo "Hurley" Reyes
1977: Hurley drove the group to the Swan site in order to help Jack. A gun battle followed, and he stayed in the Dharma van. It is unknown where he was at the time of the detonation.
Jin-Soo Kwon
1977: Jin was with Hurley in the van when the incident occurred. His exact location is currently unknown.
Sayid Jarrah
1977: Sayid was shot and severely wounded by Roger Linus at the Barracks. Losing blood, he rigged the Jughead core to detonate on impact (bodge job or what?!). Obviously he stayed in the van with Hurley and Jin, leaving his fate unknown.
Miles Straume
1977: Miles' father, Pierre Chang, had his hand crushed by the drill structure when it collapsed. Miles ran to his aid (calling him Dad for the first time) and took him to a safe location.
John Locke
2007: Locke is dead! His body was in the crate that Ilana's group got from the plane. But Jacob's nemesis had already taken on his form, and manipulated Ben into killing Jacob for him. When Ben stabbed Jacob, this guy listened to his last words "they're coming" before kicking him into the fire.
Benjamin Linus
2007: Ben killed Locke before returning to the Island on Ajira Flight 316. But when Locke appeared alive on the Island, he followed him to Jacob. When Jacob failed to explain why he has neglected him all these years, Ben followed Locke's orders and stabbed him.
Sun-Hwa Kwon
2007: Outside the remains of the statue, Sun waited for Locke and Ben to finish speaking to Jacob. Ilana's group approached with the crate, revealing Locke's dead body. Sun asked "if that's Locke, then who's in there?." Exactly.
Richard Alpert
2007: Richard lead Locke and the Others to the remains of the statue, where Jacob lives. While waiting for Locke to finish speaking to Jacob, Ilana's group approached and asked him "What lies in the shadow of the statue?". He answered in Latin "Ille qui nos omnes servabit," which means "He which shall save us all". Ilana's group then revealed the contents of the crate - John Locke's body.
Frank Lapidus
2007: Frank returned to the Island as the captain of Ajira Flight 316. Ilana took him prisoner and took him with them to the main Island. They revealed to him the contents of the crate. He followed them to the statue remains.
Ilana
2007: Ilana and her group took their crate to the statue, where they found the Others. She asked for Richardus, and then asked him "what lies in the shadow of the statue?". When Richard gave the correct answer, she ordered her group to reveal the contents of the crate. John Locke's body, which was found in the cargo hold of Ajira Flight 316.
Claire Littleton
2007 (presumably): Claire was last seen in 2004, before the Oceanic 6 left the Island. While making her way back to the beach with Sawyer and Miles, she woke up one night to find her dead father, Christian Shephard, holding Aaron. She left Aaron and followed him into the jungle. She was last seen with Christian in Jacob's cabin.
Desmond Hume
2007: Desmond is currently the only main character off the Island. He was last seen recovering in hospital after being shot by Ben Linus. He promised to never leave Penny again, but according to Eloise Hawking, the Island isn't done with him. Daniel Faraday also said "the rules" don't apply to him.
